Recap on Week 9 picks

Clemson was once again the Clemson team everyone was wait to show up. The team that has great talent, but can manage to lose to just about anyone. Yeah that is the Clemson team that showed up on Saturday night in the ATL.

The USC cover went just as planned. Get it to overtime and then force 3 overtimes so that you have to go for two in ot. Then make the two point conversion and force USC to turn it over.

Week 9 Picks

I'm coming off my first two losses of the season. However, we know that this is a marathon and not a sprint. So this week, I am offering up two more picks.

Clemson -3.5 Nerds errrr..... Georgia Tech ****

Georgia Tech is coming off two straight road losses, and they have not really played well since they racked up 768 yards against Kansas. Clemson on the other hand seems to be getting better and better each week. Everyone is just sitting and waiting on Clemson to be Clemson, but they keep proving everyone wrong. Clemson is 7-1 ATS this year, and I will ride the hot hand. Clemson 44 Nerds 28.

Stanford -7.5 USC ***

If you buy the half point here then I would give this a fourth star. Last week I stayed away from Stanford when I really shouldn't have. They are 7-0 against the spread this year and they are covering big numbers easily. They have won 10 straight games by 25+ points. Yes you read that right 25 points. USC is coming off a big win, but Notre Dame really handed them that game with untimely turnovers. Let me tell you, you don't win 10 straight games by 25+ points turning the ball over. I'll take Stanford over USC 34-17.

On the Season: 7-2-1
Oklahoma (-3) Florida St.  [final score Okla 23 - Fl St 13]

Stanford (-9.5) Arizona [final score Stanford 37 - Arizona 10]

UGA (-10) Ole Miss [final score UGA 27 - Ole Miss 13]

Bama (-4) Florida [final score Bama 38 - UF 10]

Georgia Tech (-10) NC State [final score Ga Tech 45 - NC St 35]

UGA (-1.5) Tennessee [final score UGA 20 - Tenn 12]

LSU (-16) Tennessee [final score LSU 38 - Tenn 7]

Stanford (-21) Wash St [final score Stanford 44 - Wash St 14]

Arkansas (-17) Ole Miss [final score Ark 29 - Ole Miss 24]

Wake Forest (-3) Duke [final score Wake 24 - Duke 23]

Last weeks picks (not so good)

I took my first two losses of the season last week. I'm going to just chalk it up to Georgia being on the bye, and not having my head in the game.

Looks like my prediction was similar to an Oxford sports writer. I wonder if Houston Dale was mad at me for making this a pick of the week?

Wake was up 17-0 and then just let Duke crawl back into the game. Oh well, we will move on from this and finish the season strong. Look for this weeks picks on Thursday morning.

Picks of the Week

Alright we are at the half way point in the season and we are trucking along with a 7-0-1 record. So unless the second half of the season tanks, we should be looking at a winning year. There is nothing on the books that really jumps out to me this week so I had to dig a little to find my pick of the week. This week we lifted a rock and found 2 three star picks.

Wake Forest -3 Duke ***
I think that Wake Forest is just flat out the better team. So I will lay the three even on the road. I'll pick Wake to win 34-24.

Arkansas -16.5 Ole Miss ***
Ole Miss is just flat out bad, not only are they bad, but I think that the team has given up on on the season. People can talk all they want about how Houston Dale Nutt can always rally the troops in these situations, but I only think that works when the team is in the coaches corner. With the suspensions last week coupled with the 52 points they gave up to Bama, I just don't think that this team cares. Coming off the bye week I look for Arkansas to make this a statement game. With just one loss they are still in it for a BCS at large bid, and they are staring down that post Thanksgiving match up with LSU. I like Arkansas to win 48-17.

Picks of the Week

Ok, my homer pick hit last week bumping my season record to 5-0-1. Not to shabby.

So, I don't normally like to lay big numbers, but this week is a little exception.

LSU -16 Tennessee ***
Well on the surface this looks to be the pick of the weekend, and when you dig deeper it looks even better. LSU is taking a top 5 ranked defense into Knoxville to face Dooley's Vols. This is the second week in a row that Tennessee will face a top 10 defense, and last week it proved to be a painful match-up. Not only did they manage to put up just 12 points, but their starting QB got knocked out of the game. Dooley was quoted yesterday on the loss of Bray "a blow to the spirit", and playing the number one team is not a good time to have a blow to the spirit. This will also be the Chief's first trip back to Rocky Top. So you know he will have his defense fired up. Couple that with the close game last year, and the fact that the Vols have really bad special teams, and I look for LSU to be working on several short fields. Short fields for the number one team in the nation equals lots of points. Tennessee's total rushing yards in two SEC games is -22 yards, and that equals very few points. I like LSU big here 38-10.

Stanford -21 Washington State ****
Stanford for some reason is flying a little under the radar. Is it the east coast bias? Is it that people don't like tree-hugging hippies? Whatever the case may be, the Cardinals are rolling. This year they are 5-0 ATS. Not only have they covered every game, they have covered by an average of 13 points over the number, and 4 of the 5 games had a spread over 21 points. So basically this is a no brainier. My prediction Stanford 48 Washington St 14.

On the Season: 5-0-1

Oklahoma (-3) Florida St.  [final score Okla 23 - Fl St 13]

Stanford (-9.5) Arizona [final score Stanford 37 - Arizona 10]

UGA (-10) Ole Miss [final score UGA 27 - Ole Miss 13]

Bama (-4) Florida [final score Bama 38 - UF 10]

Georgia Tech (-10) NC State [final score Ga Tech 45 - NC St 35]

UGA (-1.5) Tennessee [final score UGA 20 - Tenn 12]

Pick of the Week

This is the first in a weekly series of picks. If I feel good about multiple games then I will have multiple picks, but there may only be one pick. I will also give it a star rating.

UGA -1.5 @Tenn - 3 star

Tennessee can't run the ball, and UGA has the second best 3rd down defense in the nation.

It was hard for me to start off my weekly pick with what most would call a homer pick, but it really is the game I like the most this week. There just seem to be too many 14+ point spreads this weekend, and none of them seem like locks. So, I'm going to roll with my bulldawgs and Todd Grantham's defense to get it done on Rocky Top.

Auburn v Arkansas

This week is Auburn v Arkansas in Fayettenam. I would say the 99.99% of Barners hate Bamers more than any other team, but the 0.01% is the guy that hates Arkansas for what they did to his conversion van.

Detroit Lions Fan

I've never been a bandwagoner, but I am jumping on the Lions bandwagon big time.  I at least have a few reasons to like the Lions.
  • Their QB is a Georgia Dawg
  • The head coach was a great defensive coordinator for the Titans
  • Two former Titans who are hard not to like.  KVB and Tulloch are two motor guys that are just fun to watch.
Here's a pic of my new hat:

Welcome to Ulika Football

I am starting a little football blog to post my random football musings as well as my weekly picks. Since I got banned from the SEC Rant, I needed a place to put other teams on blast, and let the world know what I think (even if no one cares).

As a bonus, I will post my weekly picks and overall record every Thursday. FWIW, I am 4-0-1 on the year.

I will mostly be posting about Titans, Georgia, and SEC Football, but you can also expect some awesome pictures like the ones below.
